Booking.com has rewarded with the Guest Review Awards 2017 the partners and the accommodation facilities that have always kept exceptional the level of experience and stay offered to its guests. After analyzing over 140 million reviews, this year 549,937 facilities will be awarded in 218 countries and territories and some "new entries", such as Cuba, Equatorial Guinea and Liberia. The top countries with the highest number of prizes are Italy (with 81,603 partners awarded), France (33,500), the United States (30,502), Spain (29,598), Germany (25,969), Croatia (24,395 ), the United Kingdom (21.655), Poland (18.391), Russia (18.300) and Greece (17.361).
For the first time, the apartments are in first place as the most awarded type of structure in 2017, representing 30% of the total. In fact, four top-of-five types do not fall into the traditional hotel category: these are apartments (165,876), landlords (63,697), bed and breakfasts (55,833) and holiday homes (29,634), compared to a total of 132,339 hotels.
In order to receive a prize, the structures must have maintained an average score of 8.0 or higher on at least 5 reviews, up to 11.59 pm (CET) on 31 October 2017. Only guests who have actually stayed at a facility can leave a review on Booking.com. After check-out, they are asked to rate their accommodation, based on six categories: cleanliness, comfort, location, services, staff and value for money.
Italy stands out this year too, collecting the highest number of awards globally: 81063 structures, of all types, received an Award, with an average score of 8.9. In addition, 442 facilities reached the perfect 10, demonstrating the attention and the will to always offer unforgettable experiences. Rome is the city with the highest number of facilities (5913) that have received Booking.com recognition.
